Frequently Asked Questions
How were the winners selected?
It was a multi-stage process. From initial submissions to 1,000 semi-finalists selected through a mix of AI-assisted and human review. Community voting on AWS Builder Center narrowed the list to 300, then an AWS expert panel chose the 50 finalists. In the final round, community voting determined the Global Champions and Regional Champions. The Innovation Award and Creative Track winners were chosen separately by the expert panel, scored on technical innovation, implementation quality, market impact, and global scalability.
Why did both Global Champions come from the same region (APJC)?
Global Champions were picked purely by community vote count across all 50 finalists, regardless of region. The two apps with the highest deduplicated vote totals won, and both happened to be from APJC. Regional Champions exist as a separate category specifically to guarantee geographic representation across all six AWS regions.
Were votes verified?
All votes were cast by authenticated AWS Builder Center users (you need a valid Builder ID to sign in and vote). Vote counts were deduplicated. Only votes cast during the official voting window (April 18 to 23, 2026) were counted. The top-voted articles were also reviewed for validity before winners were confirmed.
Can a single person or team win multiple prizes?
No. Each finalist was eligible for one prize category only. Global and Regional Champions were determined by community votes. Innovation and Creative Track awards were selected independently by an AWS expert panel.
Why are some countries excluded from the competition?
Eligibility is governed by applicable laws and regulations. Individuals in certain countries and regions were excluded per the official Terms and Conditions. AWS employees and their immediate family members were also ineligible. The full list is in the official Terms.
Are the winning applications actually built within the AWS Free Tier?
All prototypes were required to be built within AWS Free Tier limits using Kiro. These apps show that you don't need big compute budgets to build something meaningful with AI.
Are all winners final?
Winners are subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the official Terms and Conditions. AWS reserves the right to disqualify entries that do not meet the stated requirements, at AWS's sole discretion. See the Terms for official rules.
When and how will winners receive their prizes?
Winners will be contacted at the email address tied to their AWS Builder Center profile. AWS credits will be distributed by May 30, 2026. Winners are responsible for applicable taxes and need to provide required tax documentation before receiving cash prizes. Full details are in the Terms .
Congratulations to our winners, finalists, semi-finalists, and every participant who shared an idea. And a heartfelt thank you to our AWS community and everyone who helped make this competition possible.
