Introduction

We all know how intense Kolkata summers get. It’s Sunday, May 24th, 2026. The temperature hit a peak of about 36°C (96.8°F). Usually, on a hot weekend like this, people just want to relax at home with their families because Monday work is right around the corner.
Since our meetup was scheduled for 10:00 AM, a lot of us, including me, had to start our journey without even having breakfast. It took me 3 hours to reach the venue. Honestly, on the way there, I wondered how many folks would actually turn up in this heat.

But the Kolkata tech crowd proved their dedication. When the topic is Generative AI and you have a great speaker, people show up. Here is a complete look at how our AWS Kolkata Meetup on Amazon Bedrock became an absolute success, proving that our city's tech ecosystem is highly energetic and always ready to learn.

The What: A Huge Community Collaboration

This event wasn't a standard tech talk. I hosted this meetup as a special collaboration between AWS User Group Kolkata  and the OmniAi TechX Community

To bring real value to the attendees, we invited Sandip Das, Senior Cloud, DevOps & MLOps Engineer and AWS Container Hero. He took the stage to speak on a highly practical topic: "Build AI Enabled AIO Web Application with Amazon Bedrock."
We also managed to bring together 9 fantastic tech communities as partners. I was able to contact and feature:
  • Global Azure Kolkata
  • AWS User Group Kolkata
  • Cloud Native Kolkata
  • CraftyEdge
  • Open Source Con India
  • Slack Community Kolkata
  • Indian Data Club Kolkata
  • Grafana Labs Community Kolkata
  • CMX Connect Kolkata

A big thanks to our venue partner, Workmates Core2Cloud, for providing a comfortable space for all of us to gather.

The Why: Choosing AI Over a Lazy Sunday

So, why did people travel 2 to 3 hours for this? Because AI is booming everywhere, and developers want to know how to actually implement it.
We had 39 RSVPs on our Meetup page. Normally, you expect fewer people to show up on a hot Sunday morning. But we saw more than 60 people attend the event.
"Seeing 60+ people skip their Sunday morning sleep and breakfast to travel in 36-degree heat just to learn about Amazon Bedrock shows how passionate the Kolkata tech community really is."

The energy in the room was highly positive. Everyone wanted to network, connect with each other, and learn how to build real-world AI applications.

The How: The Agenda, Swags, and Lunch

We kept the day highly structured so everyone got the most out of their time. Here is exactly how the meetup flowed:

Step 1: Registration & Welcome (10:00 AM – 10:30 AM)

People arrived early, got checked in, and grabbed their seats. Since many traveled from far away, this 30-minute window was perfect for attendees to settle down and network with fellow tech enthusiasts before we kicked things off.

Step 2: Main Speaker Session (10:30 AM – 12:00 PM)

Sandip Das delivered a fantastic technical walkthrough. He guided the audience through the architecture and practical steps of building an All-in-One (AIO) Web Application powered by AI. He showed us how to seamlessly integrate Amazon Bedrock's foundation models to turn AI ideas into reality.

Step 3: Community Spotlights (12:00 PM – 12:30 PM)

We featured rapid-fire introductory talks from our 9 collaborating communities. This was a great way for attendees to discover what these groups do, what tech trends they are exploring, and how they can join them.

Step 4: Q&A and Wrap-up (12:30 PM – 01:00 PM)

We opened the floor for questions. Attendees asked their queries directly to Sandip and the community leaders. We wrapped up an amazing day of learning right on time.

Step 5: Post-Meetup Fun and Swags

After the session ended, Workmates Core2Cloud provided sufficient snacks, which was a lifesaver since many of us hadn't eaten since morning. We distributed a lot of swags from the multiple communities, including the popular AWS UG Kolkata Kiro keyrings.

Once the venue cleared, Sandip, Arnab, Priyanshu, and I went for lunch near Nicco Park. We had some amazing chicken starters and followed it up with chicken and mutton biryani. Finally, Sandip drove me home. Since it was a Sunday afternoon with less traffic, my 3-hour morning journey turned into a very comfortable 1.5-hour ride back.
