Kiro Weekly Reading List - 21st June 2026

Welcome to this week in Kiro, where AWS Summit New York 2026 stole the spotlight with a wave of official announcements. Alongside it, the community kept shipping practical write-ups on hooks, MCP, and building in public.

Patterns this week:
  • AWS Summit New York 2026 drove a wave of official Kiro news. Several AWS and press posts on June 17 converged on the same event: an iOS "Kiro Mobile" app preview, spec-driven development in Kiro Web, a New Relic integration, and Kiro "power" integrations for the AWS Security Agent and AWS DevOps Agent.
  • Building and shipping real apps with Kiro. Multiple builders documented end-to-end app builds: an iPhone quiz app published to the App Store (ICHINO Kazuaki), a long-shelved SaaS shipped "in one day" (Jonathan dos Santos), and a two-part Tagalog language-app series for Manila Community Day.
  • MCP how-tos keep coming. Several walkthroughs covered getting MCP working with Kiro: a local Python MCP server (xbill), a from-scratch "Building an MCP Server with Kiro," and a config primer on what MCP servers are and why agents need them (Itumeleng Mokgako).

Breaking Build: Kiro and Claude Delivered Exactly What I Asked, and It Wasn't What I Wanted

Dev.to · L. Cordero · 2026-06-19
A builder-in-public post cataloguing four separate times Kiro and Claude produced technically correct work that missed the actual intent. The examples are concrete and pattern-matched: a deploy pipeline that ran once in May and never again (the live site was a stub); three UI tabs where only one was wired up; scanner findings accurate enough for an engineer but unreadable by the intended audience; and a social card renderer that "succeeded" with an empty font fetch and produced a zero-byte image. The author's framing is sharp: agents optimise for what you said, not what you meant, and the human's job is to keep checking the work against intent. Built on Agentis Lux with Kiro and Claude.

How I Built an iPhone App and Published It on the App Store — With Kiro CLI as My Partner

Dev.to · ICHINO Kazuaki · 2026-06-15
A Japanese developer with zero iOS experience describes building and shipping a React Native quiz app called "AWS Security Quiz" entirely through Kiro CLI conversations. Starting from a brief bullet list of requirements, Kiro generated a requirements document, a technical design, and a five-phase implementation plan, then handled Expo setup, AdMob integration, a simulator configuration fix, two App Store rejection fixes (ATT dialogue, AdMob App ID), and a bilingual English translation pass using the sub-agent feature. The actual hands-on build took about half a day; App Store review took longer.

Local MCP Development with Python and Kiro

Dev.to · xbill · 2026-06-14
A practical walkthrough of setting up Python MCP servers locally with Kiro CLI, framed as a minimal building-block validation before tackling more complex MCP tools. The author starts with a Hello World-style stdio transport MCP server to confirm the Kiro CLI to local-process connection works end-to-end, then extends the server with additional tools via Kiro. The article is part of a series that previously covered the same pattern with Gemini CLI; this entry ports it to Kiro.

Kiro WSL AWS Setup Guide

GitHub Pages · jajera · 2026-06-15
A multi-section reference guide for setting up a complete Kiro development environment on Windows using WSL2. It walks through enabling BIOS virtualisation and installing WSL2 with Docker Desktop and Ubuntu, then installs Kiro IDE with extensions and connects it to WSL with workspace steering files and MCP servers configured. A development environment section covers Git identity, GitHub SSH keys, and AWS CLI with IAM Identity Centre, followed by a quick-reference card of daily commands for WSL, Docker, AWS SSO, Git, and Kiro.
