Amazon SageMaker Adds an AI Skill for Generative AI Inference Optimization
AWS has introduced a new aws-ai-ml skill through the Agent Toolkit for AWS to help coding agents work with Amazon SageMaker AI inference optimization.
The skill gives coding agents specialized knowledge for benchmarking and optimizing generative AI inference workloads.
What can it do?
Developers can describe what they want to accomplish, and the coding agent can help generate executable SageMaker Python SDK v3 code.
The workflow can be used to:
- Benchmark inference endpoints
- Compare deployment configurations
- Evaluate performance
- Recommend suitable configurations
- Analyze inference optimization opportunities
Works with coding agents
The skill is designed to work with coding agents such as:
- Kiro
- Claude Code
- Codex
This means developers can use natural-language instructions while still receiving executable code that they can inspect and modify.
Designed with safety in mind
The agent does not simply assume missing information.
If important information such as an endpoint name or S3 URI is missing, it asks the developer to provide it.
It also requests confirmation before impactful actions, such as running benchmarks that generate traffic against a live endpoint.
Why this matters
Generative AI applications can have significant inference costs and performance requirements.
Finding the right model deployment, instance type, and configuration can require extensive testing.
An AI-assisted optimization workflow can make this process easier by helping developers benchmark different configurations and generate the code needed to evaluate them.
The new SageMaker skill is another example of AWS combining AI coding agents with cloud infrastructure and machine learning workflows.
