Day 1: Starting My AWS Cloud Practitioner Journey as a Student
Starting AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner Certification, Lets support each other!
Hi everyone! Today I’m officially starting my journey toward the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam, and I’m going to document it here on Builder Center.
Why cloud, and why now?
Over the past year I’ve built several AI projects, including an Arabic language model packaged in a Docker container and a bilingual AI assistant. But they all run on my own laptop or on free hosting, and I’ve never really understood what happens behind the scenes when an app “runs in the cloud”. Almost every AI and software role I look at now lists cloud skills, so I want to close that gap properly. My goal is to deploy one of my own projects on AWS by the end of this journey.

I just verified my student status, which unlocked 12 months of AWS Skill Builder. Over the next 90 days I’m going to:
- Work through AWS Cloud Practitioner Essentials on Skill Builder
- Practise hands-on with AWS Cloud Quest and Builder Center workshops
- Publish one article every week explaining a topic I’ve just learned, in plain language
- Take the official practice exam before booking the real one
What I’ll be writing about
Next week I’m tackling the Shared Responsibility Model: what AWS secures versus what you secure. After that I’ll cover Regions and Availability Zones, then choosing between EC2, Lambda and Fargate. As someone who has containerised my own projects with Docker, I’m especially curious about Fargate.

Let’s grow together
The AWS free certification exam opportunity is more than a chance to earn a certification. It’s also a great way for us to grow together as a community.

Preparing for a certification exam can feel challenging, especially when you’re balancing studies, work, projects and everything else. That’s why I’d love this post to be a small space where we can connect, support one another and celebrate each other’s progress.
If you’re on this journey too, leave a comment below and share what you’re working toward. Whether you’re preparing for an AWS certification, writing an article or creating a wish, let’s help each other by reading, liking, commenting on and sharing each other’s work.
Feel free to introduce yourself in the comments and share:

A question for you
If you’ve already passed Cloud Practitioner: what’s one thing you wish you’d known before you started studying? I’d really appreciate any advice.
