AWS has announced the Strands Decider Agent Hackathon, and this is an exciting opportunity for developers, AI enthusiasts, cloud engineers, and builders to turn creative ideas into working AI agents.
💡 What makes this hackathon interesting?
Instead of asking an LLM to make every decision, you can use Strands Decider 2B, an experimental decision model from AWS, to handle meaningful decisions quickly, while Amazon Bedrock powers the generative side of your agent.
Imagine building an agent that can:
- 🧠 Select the right tool based on a user's request.
- 🛡️ Check whether tool arguments are grounded in the user's input.
- 🎯 Classify requests before taking action.
- ⚡ Decide whether a task needs a powerful model or a smaller one.
- 📚 Identify the most relevant memories or context before generating an answer.
The real challenge is not just building another chatbot. It's designing an agent that makes smarter decisions and demonstrating exactly how Decider 2B contributes to the result.
🏆 What can you win?
Three winning participants will each receive:
- $5,000 in AWS promotional credits
- An AWS Builder swag bundle worth approximately $600
- An official winner's certificate
🛠️ What do you need to submit?
Your project must include:
- A working AWS agent using Strands Decider 2B for at least one meaningful decision, paired with Amazon Bedrock.
- A technical article published on AWS Builder Center.
- A public GitHub repository containing your source code and at least one reusable Decider 2B decision pattern, under an approved open-source license.
- A public demo video under three minutes showing the agent and its decision working, including the confidence score.
- The tags #strands-decider-2b and one relevant decision-pattern tag.
📅 Hackathon dates: October 16–23, 2026.
The submission deadline is October 23, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
You must be at least 18 years old, have an AWS Builder Center profile, and meet the eligibility requirements in the official rules. Some countries and regions are excluded, so check the terms before participating.
