Cloud security is more than just protecting resources. Itโs also about controlling who can access what, and what theyโre allowed to do.
In this module, I explored AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) and its role in securing cloud environments.
Here are four key concepts I learned:
๐น IAM Users: Identities for individuals or applications that need access to AWS.
๐น IAM Groups: Collections of users that can share the same permissions.
๐น IAM Roles: Identities with permissions that can be assumed by trusted users or services when needed.
๐น IAM Policies: Documents that define permissionsโwhat actions are allowed or denied on which resources.
One principle that stood out to me was the principle of least privilege: granting only the permissions necessary to perform a task.
My biggest takeaway?
Security isn't just about keeping people out. It's about ensuring the right people and services have the right access.
