Same Idea, Different Hackathon, Different Outcome. Is Bengaluru's Competition Too High?
My experience with hackathons in Bengaluru and Delhi made me question how much competition influences the outcome. Can the same idea receive completely different recognition depending on the competitive environment? If you're a developer in Bengaluru, have you experienced this too? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I've been thinking about something after my hackathon experiences in Bengaluru and Delhi.
Imagine building a project, putting in hours of effort, and participating in a hackathon in Bengaluru, only to walk away without the result you hoped for. Then, you see the same idea receive a completely different outcome at a hackathon in another city.
It makes you wonder: Is it the project, or is it the level of competition?
Bengaluru has an incredible tech ecosystem, filled with talented developers and ambitious builders. But with such a concentrated pool of talent, even good projects can struggle to stand out.
And here's the interesting part: a hackathon winner's tag can strengthen someone's resume and open doors, while another developer who built something equally good might walk away without that recognition.
I'm not saying winners don't deserve their achievements. Every hackathon has different judges, criteria, and competition. But our resumes often show the result without showing the context behind it.
If you're from Bengaluru, have you ever felt that winning a hackathon here is significantly harder than in other cities?
And if two developers have comparable skills and build projects of similar quality, but only one gets the winner's tag because they competed in a different environment, is that an unfair disadvantage for the one competing in Bengaluru?
I'd genuinely love to hear your experiences and opinions in the comments.
