AquaGen: The Water Black Box | Smart Water Intelligence for Heat & Water Resilience

Discover how AquaGen helps water utilities investigate unexplained water distribution discrepancies, identify potential causes of water loss, and verify corrective actions through data-driven analysis. Built for the Bharat Builds Tour’s Heat and Water track, the project uses a React-based frontend deployed on AWS Amplify, with a planned serverless architecture for future expansion.

AquaGen: The Water Black Box | Smart Water Intelligence for Heat & Water Resilience

Water is one of our most valuable resources, and managing it efficiently becomes even more important during extreme heat and periods of increased demand. As part of the Bharat Builds Tour, under Track 2: Heat and Water, I developed AquaGen: The Water Black Box, a platform designed to investigate unexplained water distribution discrepancies.
AquaGen addresses a critical challenge: the difference between water supplied and recorded consumption. These discrepancies may result from physical leaks, faulty meters, unrecorded usage, storage changes, or missing sensor data. Instead of automatically assuming a leak, AquaGen helps users examine possible causes and prioritize investigations through a structured, data-driven approach.
The platform calculates unexplained water differences, supports investigation scenarios, highlights data-quality issues, and enables before-and-after comparisons to evaluate corrective actions. Its goal is to help water utilities and municipal teams make informed decisions and improve water management.
The frontend was developed using React, Vite, JavaScript, and CSS, and deployed through AWS Amplify with GitHub integration. The project also includes a planned serverless backend architecture using AWS Lambda, Amazon API Gateway, and Amazon DynamoDB for future integration.
