Cloud computing can feel overwhelming for beginners, but hosting a simple static website using Amazon S3 (Simple Storage Service) is one of the easiest ways to get hands-on experience. Amazon S3 is primarily an object storage service designed for high availability and scalability, but it also allows users to host web content without managing any underlying servers.
To set up a static website, you start by creating a uniquely named S3 bucket in the AWS Management Console. After creating the bucket, you adjust the permissions by turning off the default public access block and adding a bucket policy that grants read permissions for public access. Next, you upload your website files, such as an index.html file, directly into the bucket. Finally, you enable the static website hosting feature under bucket properties and define the index document. AWS then provides a live URL endpoint, making your static website accessible on the internet instantly and cost-effectively.
