Lesser Known AWS Features — Day 16: AWS Systems Manager Automation
Day 16 of my AWS learning journey: Today I explored AWS Systems Manager Automation, and this was one of those features I didn't know much about before.
When managing cloud infrastructure, we often repeat the same tasks again and again. For example, restarting a service, changing a configuration, or performing a standard troubleshooting step.
Systems Manager Automation can help turn these repeated tasks into automated runbooks.
What I found interesting is that instead of manually performing the same steps every time, we can define a sequence of actions and let AWS execute them for us.
This can be useful for maintenance, troubleshooting, operational tasks, and reducing repetitive manual work.
For me, the biggest takeaway was that automation isn't only about deploying applications. It can also make everyday cloud administration much easier.
Have you used Systems Manager Automation or AWS runbooks before?
