Getting Started with AWS Builder Center: Your New Home for Learning, Connecting & Building
A practical guide to signing up, claiming your alias, exploring workshops & sandboxes, publishing your first article, and using Wishlist — everything you need to become an active builder in under 15 minutes.
If you’ve ever felt that the AWS ecosystem was a bit scattered — documentation here, community posts there, workshops somewhere else — AWS Builder Center (builder.aws.com ) was built for you.
Launched in July 2025, Builder Center is the official home for the global AWS builder community. It brings together articles, hands-on workshops, free sandbox environments, community Spaces, skill-building courses, and a direct feedback channel to AWS product teams — all under one free account called AWS Builder ID.
No credit card required. No enterprise contract. Just you and the community.
Here’s how to get productive in the next 15 minutes.
1. Create your free AWS Builder ID and claim your alias
1. Go to builder.aws.com and click Sign up or Sign in.
2. You can use email or social login (Google, GitHub, Apple, Amazon).
3. Once inside, claim your unique alias.
This becomes your public profile URL:

Your profile is your living portfolio. Add a photo, short bio, and links to your GitHub, LinkedIn, or personal site. Everything you publish, the badges you earn, and the communities you join will appear here.
2. Explore the three pillars: Learn • Connect • Build
Learn
• AWS Skill Builder – 600+ free digital courses, learning plans, and certification prep.
• Workshops – Hundreds of guided, hands-on labs created by AWS experts (filter by service, level 100–400, and duration).
• Free Sandbox Environments (available on many workshops) – Spin up a pre-provisioned AWS account for 8 hours with no personal account or credit card required. One sandbox per week.
Connect
• Follow AWS Heroes, Community Builders, and active authors.
• Join or create Spaces (topic-focused discussion groups — public, private, or invite-only).
• Discover local AWS User Groups and community programs near you.
Build
• Publish technical articles, tutorials, and series.
• Share what you’re working on.
• Use the Wishlist to submit feature requests and vote on ideas that go directly to AWS product teams.
3. Publish your first article in 5 steps
1. Click the + in the top navigation → Create article.
2. Write your title, summary, and content. Use clear H2/H3 headings and add alt text to images.
3. Add up to 5 tags.
4. Click Preview, then Publish.
5. Wait for the automated moderation scan (usually quick). Once approved, your article is live and discoverable by the community.
Pro tip: Series work great. You can link related articles together so readers can follow a learning path.
4. Earn recognition and rewards
• Complete your profile and stay active → earn badges.
• Students can verify enrollment and unlock free premium Skill Builder access, AWS credits, and even a certification exam voucher through the Student Rewards program.
• Consistent contribution and community impact can lead to recognition as an AWS Community Builder or (eventually) AWS Hero.
5. Give feedback that actually shapes the product
The Wishlist feature is one of the most powerful parts of Builder Center. Submit a wish for a missing feature or improvement, discuss it with other builders, and vote. AWS product teams actively review highly voted items.
This is your direct line into the roadmap.
