AWS introduces Spend Limits for project-level cost control
AWS has introduced Spend Limits to help you control costs at the project level.
- Set a maximum monthly spend for an AWS project.
- When the limit is reached, AWS can pause the project and stop its resources.
- Get notifications at 50%, 75%, and 90% of your limit.
- Designed mainly for learning, experiments, and sandbox environments.
- You can apply Spend Limits to up to 10 projects.
The key difference from traditional AWS Budgets is simple:
Budgets ā Alert you
Spend Limits ā Can actually stop resources
Spend Limits ā Can actually stop resources
This is an interesting step toward proactive AWS cost control and FinOps.
