Introducing Events on AWS Builder Center

Some of the best learning happens with other builders. Community events are where you get answers from people who have already solved the problem, see how others are building, and meet the people you will keep learning from long after the event ends. Our community leaders host meetups, workshops, and study sessions for their local communities, both online and in person. Until now, finding them meant checking many different sites. Now they are in one place on Builder Center and the AWS Builder app, next to the articles, workshops, and spaces you already use.

Events are listed at builder.aws.com/connect/events  and in the AWS Builder app on iOS and Android, so you can browse and register from your phone. Each event shows whether it is In person, Online, or Hybrid, along with its date, time, and tag. Times are shown in the event's time zone, so check the abbreviation against your own before you plan around it. Some events have a registration limit, so register early for the ones you do not want to miss. If you are near an AWS Builder Loft, check its calendar too. The Builder Loft in San Francisco runs four to eight events in a typical week.

Registering requires a Builder ID, which is free. How you register depends on how the host set up the event. Public events let anyone read the page and register right away. Private events let anyone request to register, and the host approves or declines. Invite only events are open to invited builders alone, and your invitation arrives in-app, as a push notification in the AWS Builder app, and in a digest email.

Registering is also what unlocks the details. The meeting URL for an online or hybrid event is only shown to attendees. For an in-person event, the host can choose to show the street address to registered builders only.

With the AWS Builder app, the updates that matter most come straight to your phone as push notifications. You get a reminder 24 hours before the event. You also get a heads-up when the host changes the date, time, venue, or meeting link. And if an event is canceled, you will hear about it right away. The same updates also arrive by email and in-app on Builder Center. Hosts can also post updates to the event's Discussion tab, and posts sent to attendees arrive in-app and in a digest email.

Creating events is available to AWS Heroes, Community Builders, User Group Leaders, and Student Builder Group Leaders. Select + in the navigation and choose Event. Set the format, the date and time in the event's time zone, a registration limit, and who can register. Requests to join a Private event reach you in-app, as a push notification in the AWS Builder app, and in a digest email.
