One thing I’m slowly learning during my AWS journey is that I don’t need to understand everything before I start building.
When I first started learning AWS, I kept looking at the huge number of services and wondering:
“Where should I even begin?”
I thought I needed to understand networking, compute, storage, IAM, monitoring, security, and many other topics before I could build anything meaningful.
But I’m starting to realize that learning by building is much more effective.
For example, creating a small EC2 environment can lead me to questions about IAM, security groups, networking, logging, and permissions. One small project can naturally introduce several new concepts.
Instead of trying to learn AWS from A to Z, I’m trying to learn one concept, build something with it, break it, understand why it broke, and then secure it.
Maybe that is a better way to learn Cloud Security.
Don’t wait until you know everything to start building. Build, break, learn, and improve.
What was the first AWS project that helped you really understand what you were learning?
