AWS Just Made Your Infrastructure Optimize Itself

You open the AWS console and see a bill. Some ECS Fargate task costs an extra $3,420 per month because someone set vCPU to 2048 when actual utilization is 24%. You know it should be fixed. You know the task is over-provisioned by roughly 2x. But you don't have time to audit every resource.

AWS just shipped an Agent that does it for you.

What the Well-Architected Agent Is

On October 1, AWS launched the AWS Well-Architected Agent in preview.
Simple version: it's Trusted Advisor and the Well-Architected Tool, evolved into an AI agent. You define business priorities — like "reliability first" or "cost first" — and it analyzes your entire infrastructure, returning recommendations ranked by impact and effort.

It Doesn't Just "Suggest"

Traditional tools tell you "this task is over-provisioned." Then you go fix it yourself.
The Well-Architected Agent gives you an SSM runbook to execute the change automatically. Or a CLI script you can copy and run.
If you use Terraform, CDK, or CloudFormation, it analyzes your IaC templates directly and returns the code changes needed to align with Well-Architected best practices.

A Real Example

Here's an actual recommendation from the search results:
Problem: Production ECS Fargate task coin-recommendation-engine is statically configured at 2048 vCPU / 4096 MB, but 30-day CloudWatch shows p95 CPU utilization at just 24% and memory at 38%.
Recommendation: Resize to 1024 vCPU / 2048 MB, paired with existing auto-scaling.
Impact: $3,420 monthly savings.
That's not theoretical. That's the format the Agent actually outputs.

Who Can Use It Right Now

Available in three regions only: US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon).
Requires an AWS Support plan. Free accounts can't use it yet.

What This Means

AWS is turning "architecture review" from a quarterly project into a continuously running Agent.
Your ECS tasks, your DLQ queues, your IAM roles — it's watching. It tells you where you're wasting money, where alerts are missing, which roles have * permissions.
You don't need to become a Well-Architected expert. You need to learn how to read the Agent's output.
