What if you could ask AI:
“Look at my AWS environment. What should I improve?”
And instead of giving you a generic checklist, it actually analyzed your infrastructure and gave you prioritized recommendations with fixes?
That’s the idea behind the new AWS Well-Architected Agent, now available in public preview.

🧠 What Does It Do?

The AWS Well-Architected Agent analyzes your AWS environment and looks for opportunities across four areas:
💰 Cost Optimization
🔐 Security
⚡ Performance
🛡️ Resilience
It can correlate resource configurations, utilization metrics, and application topology to produce recommendations based on your environment—not just generic advice.

🎯 The Interesting Part: It Understands Your Goals

Suppose your company says:
“Our biggest priority is reliability.”
Instead of treating every finding equally, the agent can prioritize recommendations according to that goal.
For example:
Problem → Recommendation → Impact → Trade-off → Fix
This makes cloud optimization much more practical for both developers and business teams.

🛠️ It Doesn't Stop at Recommendations

This is where it gets interesting.
The agent can provide:
  • Step-by-step remediation guidance
  • AWS CLI commands
  • Console walkthroughs
  • Infrastructure-as-Code changes
  • Automation-ready remediation such as SSM runbooks
It can also review Terraform, CloudFormation, and CDK infrastructure before deployment.
So the workflow becomes:
Analyze → Prioritize → Explain → Fix → Verify
Instead of:
Analyze → Read 50-page documentation → Figure it out yourself 😅

🤔 Is This Replacing Cloud Architects?

Not really.
AI can identify patterns and suggest changes, but AWS explicitly warns that generative-AI recommendations can contain errors or incomplete information.
So human review still matters—especially before making changes to production infrastructure.

🚀 Why This Matters

Cloud optimization is moving from:
“Let's manually review our infrastructure.”
to:
“Let AI continuously find what we should improve.”
And that's a bigger shift than simply adding another AI chatbot.

My takeaway:

AI isn't just helping us build cloud infrastructure anymore.
It's starting to help us improve the infrastructure we already have.
Would you trust an AI agent to recommend changes to your AWS production environment?
YES 👍 — with human approval
MAYBE 🤔 — read-only recommendations first
NO 🔒 — I want everything reviewed manually
