Building a CI/CD Pipeline with AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and GitHub

Learn how to build an automated CI/CD pipeline using GitHub, AWS CodeBuild, and AWS CodePipeline to automatically build, test, and deploy an application.

Building a CI/CD Pipeline with AWS CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and GitHub

Introduction

In modern software development, manually building and deploying applications can be time-consuming and error-prone.
Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) help automate this process.
In this article, we will build a simple CI/CD pipeline using:
  • GitHub as the source code repository
  • AWS CodeBuild to build and test the application
  • AWS CodePipeline to automate the complete workflow
The basic workflow will look like this:
GitHub → CodePipeline → CodeBuild → Deployment

What is CI/CD?

CI/CD is a software development practice that automates the process of building, testing, and deploying applications.

Continuous Integration

Continuous Integration automatically builds and tests code whenever developers push changes to a shared repository.

Continuous Deployment

Continuous Deployment automatically delivers successfully tested changes to the target environment.
Using CI/CD reduces manual work and allows teams to release changes more frequently.
