My AWS Cloud Practitioner Learning Journey as a Student
My journey of learning AWS Cloud Computing and preparing for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification as a university student.
My AWS Cloud Practitioner Learning Journey
I am a computer science student currently learning cloud computing and preparing for the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner (CLF-C02) certification.
I started learning AWS because cloud computing has become an important skill for software developers. I want to understand not only how AWS services work, but also how they are used to build, deploy, and scale real-world applications.
Why I Started Learning AWS
As a software development student, I have been learning technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, React, databases, Docker, and web development.
Learning AWS helps connect these technologies with real cloud infrastructure.
For example, a typical application can involve:
- Frontend application
- Backend API
- Database
- Object storage
- Networking
- Authentication and security
- Monitoring
- Deployment
AWS provides services that can be used to build each part of this architecture.
AWS Services I Am Learning
Some of the AWS services and concepts I am currently focusing on include:
Amazon EC2
EC2 provides virtual servers in the AWS Cloud.
I am learning how EC2 instances can be used to deploy backend applications and how factors such as instance types, security groups, and pricing affect the deployment.
Amazon S3
S3 provides scalable object storage.
I am learning about buckets, objects, storage classes, permissions, and common use cases such as storing images, documents, and static website files.
Amazon RDS
RDS makes it easier to run relational databases in the cloud.
I am learning how managed database services reduce the amount of infrastructure management required by developers.
AWS Lambda
Lambda allows code to run without managing servers directly.
I am interested in serverless architecture because it can be useful for applications that need event-driven processing.
Amazon VPC
Networking is another important area I am studying.
I am learning about VPCs, subnets, route tables, internet gateways, NAT gateways, and security groups.
What I Am Learning From Cloud Computing
One of the biggest things I have learned is that cloud computing is not just about hosting an application.
It involves understanding:
- Security
- Availability
- Scalability
- Reliability
- Performance
- Cost optimization
- Networking
- Monitoring
These concepts are useful even when working as a software developer rather than as a dedicated cloud engineer.
My AWS Certification Goal
My current goal is to successfully complete the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner certification.
I am using AWS learning resources and Builder Center to improve my understanding of cloud concepts and to learn from other AWS builders.
I am also interested in eventually progressing toward more advanced AWS certifications after strengthening my fundamentals.
My Advice to Other Students
If you are also starting AWS, I recommend not trying to memorize every AWS service.
Instead, focus first on understanding:
- What problem does the service solve?
- When would I use it?
- How is it different from similar services?
- What are the security considerations?
- How does AWS charge for it?
Building small projects is also a good way to understand cloud services better.
My Next Steps
My next goals are:
- Strengthen my AWS fundamentals
- Complete my Cloud Practitioner preparation
- Build more projects using AWS
- Learn AWS networking and security
- Explore serverless applications
- Continue participating in the AWS Builder Center community
- Share what I learn with other students
I am looking forward to continuing this learning journey and learning from other builders in the AWS community.
