NagrikSetu — Built for Kiro Build Challenge

NagrikSetu is a civic-tech platform that bridges the gap between citizens and local authorities by making it easier to report, track, and manage public issues such as potholes, broken streetlights, garbage, road damage, and other civic problems. The platform provides citizens with a transparent way to raise complaints and track their progress while giving authorities centralized tools to manage, prioritize, and resolve civic issues efficiently.

PROBLEM STATEMENT
Citizens regularly encounter civic problems such as damaged roads, potholes, overflowing garbage, broken streetlights, water leakage, and other public infrastructure issues. However, reporting these problems is often fragmented, inconvenient, and lacks transparency.
Even after a complaint is submitted, citizens frequently have little visibility into:
Whether their complaint was successfully received.
Which authority or department is responsible for it.
What stage the complaint is currently in.
Whether action has actually been taken.
When the issue is expected to be resolved.
At the same time, authorities need a centralized system to organize complaints, identify problem hotspots, prioritize issues, and monitor resolution performance.
NagrikSetu solves this problem by creating a unified digital bridge between citizens and civic authorities, turning civic complaints into trackable, location-aware service requests.
SOLUTION & WHAT WE BUILT
NagrikSetu provides a complete workflow for reporting and resolving civic issues.
1. Civic Issue Reporting
Citizens can submit an issue by providing relevant details and uploading supporting images. Issues can include road damage, potholes, sanitation problems, broken infrastructure, and other public concerns.
2. Location-Based Issue Mapping
Reported issues can be displayed on an interactive map, allowing citizens and authorities to understand where problems are concentrated and identify local hotspots.
3. Issue Tracking
Every submitted report can be tracked through its lifecycle, giving citizens visibility into the progress of their complaint instead of leaving them with an unanswered submission.
4. Citizen Dashboard
Users can view and manage their submitted complaints, monitor their statuses, and follow the progress of issues they have reported.
5. Authority/Admin Dashboard
Authorities receive a centralized dashboard to manage reported issues, update statuses, assign issues, and monitor overall civic activity.
6. Community Transparency
Instead of civic complaints disappearing into an isolated complaint system, NagrikSetu creates a more transparent, community-oriented view of local issues.
7. Real-Time Updates
The platform is designed around real-time issue updates so that changes in complaint status can be reflected across the application.
HOW WE USED KIRO
Kiro was used as an AI-powered development partner throughout the development of NagrikSetu.
We used Kiro to accelerate development by breaking project requirements into smaller implementation tasks and generating the initial structure and logic required for different parts of the application.
Kiro assisted us with:
Project Scaffolding — helping structure the frontend and backend.
Feature Development — assisting with reporting, tracking, dashboards, and issue-management functionality.
UI Prototyping — rapidly creating and iterating on citizen-facing and administrative interfaces.
Backend Logic — assisting with API routes, data handling, authentication, and issue-management workflows.
Prompt-Driven Development — converting high-level product requirements into concrete development tasks.
Debugging & Refinement — identifying implementation issues and improving existing code.
Rapid Iteration — allowing us to quickly test ideas, implement features, and refine the product.
Kiro was not simply used as a code generator. We used it as a development partner throughout the build process — from planning and scaffolding to implementation, debugging, and refinement.

CHALLENGE
Built during the Kiro Build Challenge, conducted jointly by the AWS Student Builder Group GEU and AWS Student Builder Group PIET.
NagrikSetu was developed as part of the challenge to demonstrate how modern AI-assisted development with Kiro can be combined with cloud technologies to rapidly build a practical solution to a real-world problem.
ONE-LINE PROJECT DESCRIPTION
NagrikSetu is a civic-tech platform that connects citizens with local authorities through transparent, location-aware reporting and real-time tracking of civic issues.
