My First Experience with AWS Hands-On Labs: Key Takeaways for Beginners

Sharing my thoughts and core takeaways after completing my first hands-on cloud lab on AWS, along with a few practical tips for fellow students.

Hello again, builders! šŸ‘‹
For my second post on the AWS Builder Center, I wanted to share my experience stepping out of theory and into the actual AWS Management Console for my first hands-on lab.
Reading about cloud concepts is one thing, but spinning up real resources makes everything click. Here are the three biggest things I learned during my first practical lab:

šŸ’” 3 Lessons from My First AWS Lab

  1. The Sandbox is Safe: Using official AWS training environments (like AWS Educate or Skill Builder) is great because you can experiment without worrying about accidental billing surprises.
  2. Read the Clean-Up Steps: Learning how to properly delete resources (like terminating EC2 instances or emptying S3 buckets) is just as important as creating them.
  3. Follow IAM Best Practices: I quickly realized how vital it is to manage permissions correctly right from the start rather than using root access for everything.
Next up, I'm diving into AWS Cloud Quest to gamify my learning and earn my next few platform badges!

šŸ’¬ Question for the Community:

For those who have taken AWS labs, what was the very first service you built something with? Was it an Amazon S3 bucket, an EC2 instance, or something else? Let me know in the comments! šŸš€
