AWS Cloud Computing: My Learning Journey as an ECE Student

A simple introduction to my AWS learning journey as an Electronics and Communication Engineering student, exploring cloud computing, IoT, and how AWS can support real-world applications.

My First Steps into AWS Cloud Computing

Introduction

As an Electronics and Communication Engineering student, I have always been interested in electronics, embedded systems, sensors, and IoT.
While working with different technologies, I became curious about how the data generated by devices can be stored, processed, and monitored using cloud platforms.
This curiosity introduced me to AWS.

What Is Cloud Computing?

Cloud computing means using computing resources such as storage, servers, databases, and applications through the internet.
Instead of depending completely on our own computer or physical servers, cloud services allow us to access computing resources when they are needed.
For students, cloud computing is useful because it provides an opportunity to learn and experiment with technologies without requiring a large amount of physical infrastructure.

What Is AWS?

AWS stands for Amazon Web Services.
It is a cloud platform that provides many services for computing, storage, databases, networking, security, IoT, and other applications.
As a beginner, I learned that AWS is not a single service. It is a collection of different services, where each service is designed for a specific purpose.

Some AWS Services I Am Exploring

While beginning my AWS learning journey, I came across several important services.

Amazon S3

Amazon S3 is a cloud storage service used to store and access different types of data.
For example, it can be used to store images, documents, datasets, application files, and backups.
Simple idea: S3 → Store data

Amazon EC2

Amazon EC2 provides virtual computing servers in the cloud.
It allows applications to run on virtual machines without requiring us to maintain a physical server.
Simple idea: EC2 → Cloud computing

AWS Lambda

AWS Lambda allows us to run code without managing servers directly.
A Lambda function can execute when a specific event occurs, making it useful for event-driven applications.
Simple idea: Lambda → Run code

AWS and IoT

One of the areas that interests me most is the connection between AWS and Internet of Things (IoT).
IoT devices can collect data using sensors and send that data for monitoring and analysis.
Cloud platforms can help store, process, and manage this data.
As an ECE student, I find this connection interesting because it combines my knowledge of electronics and embedded systems with software and cloud technologies.
Simple idea: IoT → Collect data → Cloud → Process and monitor

Why Am I Learning AWS?

I am learning AWS to understand how modern applications and connected devices can use cloud technologies.
My goal is to explore how AWS can be combined with programming, IoT, and embedded systems to develop practical solutions.
Learning cloud computing also helps me expand my technical skills beyond electronics and understand the software side of modern technologies.

What I Have Learned

My AWS learning journey has taught me that cloud computing is a broad field with many different services.
I also learned that I don't need to understand everything at once.
Starting with the fundamentals and learning one service at a time makes it easier to build a strong foundation.
Most importantly, I learned that practical experimentation is an important part of understanding cloud technologies.

My Next Step

I want to continue learning AWS through hands-on practice and small projects.
I plan to explore more AWS services and understand how they can be integrated with IoT, embedded systems, databases, and software applications.
My goal is to gradually develop the skills needed to build scalable and practical technology solutions.

Conclusion

My AWS journey is still at the beginning, but learning the fundamentals has given me a better understanding of cloud computing.
As an ECE student, I am especially interested in exploring the combination of IoT, embedded systems, programming, and AWS Cloud.
I believe that continuously learning and building small projects will help me strengthen my skills and understand how cloud technologies can be applied to real-world problems.
This is just the beginning of my AWS learning journey, and I look forward to learning, experimenting, and building more.
