My First Steps into AWS: Understanding the Cloud
I recently started learning Amazon Web Services (AWS), and one of the first things I wanted to understand was what cloud computing actually means.
Before learning AWS, I mostly worked with applications and machine learning projects locally on my computer. AWS introduced me to a different approach: instead of running everything on my own machine, I can use cloud resources whenever I need them.
What is AWS?
AWS is a cloud platform that provides many different services for computing, storage, databases, networking, security, machine learning, and more.
Some services I have started exploring are:
- Amazon EC2 – virtual servers in the cloud
- Amazon S3 – object storage
- Amazon RDS – managed relational databases
- AWS Lambda – serverless computing
- Amazon SageMaker – machine learning
- Amazon CloudWatch – monitoring and observability
What I am Learning
As a beginner, I am focusing on understanding the fundamentals before jumping into advanced services.
My current learning path is:
AWS Basics → IAM → S3 → EC2 → Databases → Lambda → AI/ML Services
I am particularly interested in connecting AWS with my existing knowledge of Python, FastAPI, Machine Learning, and MLOps.
My Goal
My goal is not just to learn individual AWS services, but to understand how they work together to build real applications.
For example, I would eventually like to build something like:
1
2
3
4
5
6
7

FastAPI

AWS Services
↓
Database + ML Model
I'm still at the beginning of my AWS journey, but learning cloud technologies alongside Python and machine learning is an exciting next step for me.
