Amazon VPC Explained: A Beginner’s Guide to AWS Networking

Learn how Amazon VPC works and understand the fundamentals of AWS networking, including subnets, route tables, Internet Gateways, Security Groups, and Network ACLs. A beginner-friendly guide for anyone starting their cloud engineering journey.

🌐 What is Amazon VPC?

Amazon VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) allows you to create your own private network inside AWS.
It gives you control over how your AWS resources communicate with each other and with the internet.

🔹 Main Components

1. VPC
The main virtual network where your AWS resources run.
2. Subnet
A smaller network inside a VPC. It can be public or private.
3. Route Table
Controls where network traffic goes.
4. Internet Gateway
Allows resources in a public subnet to communicate with the internet.
5. Security Group
Acts like a firewall for resources such as EC2 instances.
6. Network ACL
Controls traffic at the subnet level.

💡 Public vs Private Subnet

  • Public Subnet → Can have internet connectivity through an Internet Gateway.
  • Private Subnet → Used for resources that should not be directly accessible from the internet.

🚀 Why VPC Matters

VPC is one of the most important AWS networking concepts. Understanding VPC helps you work with EC2, RDS, Load Balancers, and other AWS services.

🎯 Key Takeaway

VPC = Your virtual network in AWS
Learning VPC is an important step toward becoming a Cloud Engineer. ☁️🚀
