AWS IAM: Understanding Who Can Access What

AWS IAM is an important AWS service for managing access and permissions. In this article, I have explained IAM in simple terms, why it is useful, and some basic practices for keeping AWS resources secure.

AWS IAM: Understanding Who Can Access What

When I started learning AWS, I realized that managing access is just as important as creating cloud resources. This is where AWS Identity and Access Management (IAM) comes in.
IAM helps control who can access AWS resources and what actions they are allowed to perform. We can use IAM users, roles, and policies to manage these permissions.
One concept I found especially important is least privilege. It means giving a user or application only the permissions it actually needs instead of giving unnecessary access.
IAM also supports security practices such as Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and temporary credentials. AWS also recommends regularly reviewing and removing permissions that are no longer needed.
For me, IAM is one of the basic AWS services that helps connect cloud computing with security. Understanding permissions early can make it much easier to work safely with other AWS services.
