AWS Gives Cloud Architecture an AI Assistant

AWS Well-Architected Agent uses AI to analyze AWS environments and recommend improvements for cost, security, performance and resilience.

What if your AWS environment could review itself?
AWS has introduced the public preview of AWS Well-Architected Agent, an AI-powered capability designed to analyze AWS environments and provide contextual recommendations around cost, security, performance, and resilience. Amazon Web Services, Inc.
What makes this interesting to me is that it moves cloud optimization from a mostly manual activity toward something more continuous.
Traditionally, a developer or cloud architect might:
Deploy → Monitor → Review → Identify problems → Research → Fix
With an AI-powered architecture assistant, the workflow could become:
Deploy → Analyze → Get recommendations → Review → Implement → Re-evaluate
Imagine asking:
🔹 Where am I overspending?
🔹 Which resources create the biggest security risks?
🔹 Where could my architecture become a single point of failure?
🔹 Which resources are underutilized?
🔹 What should I improve first?
The interesting part is that AWS says the agent can understand the environment's context and business goals rather than simply applying a generic checklist. Amazon Web Services, Inc.
But I think this also raises an important question:
Should an AI architecture assistant only recommend changes, or should it eventually be allowed to implement them automatically?
There's a big difference between:
“Here is a recommendation.”
and
“I identified the problem, changed the infrastructure, and verified the result.”
The second approach could save significant engineering time — but it also makes permissions, approval, observability, and rollback extremely important.
For me, the most interesting future workflow would be:
AI analyzes → explains the issue → proposes the fix → developer approves → AWS applies the change → AI verifies the result.
💭 If AWS Well-Architected Agent analyzed your AWS account today, what would you want it to find first: cost problems, security risks, performance issues, or reliability risks?
