DevOps & Cloud Engineering Project: Retail Store on AWS EKS

A hands-on project demonstrating AWS infrastructure automation, Kubernetes, CI/CD, GitOps, and observability using Terraform, Docker, ECR, EKS, Helm, Argo CD, GitHub Actions, Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK. πŸ’» Full code & implementation: GitHub repository β€” fork it, explore it, and use it for your own learning. πŸ”— LinkedIn post: Like πŸ‘, comment πŸ’¬, and share πŸ”„ to support the project and help other DevOps learners discover it.

I recently completed a hands-on DevOps & Cloud Engineering project where I deployed and operated a multi-service retail application on AWS EKS.
The main goal was not simply to deploy an application, but to understand how Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, GitOps, Kubernetes, troubleshooting, and observability work together in a real-world environment.

πŸ—οΈ What I Implemented

πŸ”Ή Infrastructure

  • AWS infrastructure provisioned using Terraform
  • Retail application containerized using Docker
  • Application images stored in Amazon ECR
  • Multi-service application deployed on Amazon EKS

πŸ”Ή CI/CD & GitOps

The deployment workflow was automated using GitHub Actions:
GitHub β†’ GitHub Actions β†’ Docker Build β†’ Amazon ECR β†’ Helm β†’ Argo CD β†’ Kubernetes
Argo CD was used to implement a GitOps-based deployment and synchronization workflow.

πŸ”Ή Kubernetes Engineering

I deployed and managed multiple application services and worked with real Kubernetes troubleshooting scenarios, including:
  • Resource and scheduling behavior
  • Storage provisioning
  • Ingress and Load Balancer behavior
  • Application health
  • Argo CD synchronization and health issues
  • Pod restart and deployment issues
  • Workload verification using Kubernetes tools

πŸ”Ή Observability

For monitoring and logging, I implemented:
Prometheus β†’ Grafana
for Kubernetes and application metrics.
And:
Filebeat β†’ Elasticsearch β†’ Kibana
for centralized log collection, analysis, and searchable Kubernetes logs.

πŸ’‘ What I Learned

One of the most valuable parts of this project was troubleshooting problems that appeared during the actual implementation, rather than simply following a pre-configured environment.
It helped me understand that DevOps is not only about deploying applications.
It is also about:
  • βš™οΈ Automating infrastructure
  • πŸ”„ Building reliable delivery pipelines
  • ☸️ Operating Kubernetes workloads
  • πŸ” Troubleshooting production-like issues
  • πŸ“Š Monitoring applications and infrastructure
  • πŸ“ Centralizing and analyzing logs
  • πŸ” Thinking about reliability and operational visibility
