Welcome to the club, Rishi! You built a five-piece arc that turns AWS Lambda's newest primitive, Durable Functions, into a personal lab notebook, working through its internals one concept at a time before capping it off with a hands-on identity build. On his fictional plaque it reads:
Rishi opened by getting precise about retry semantics, laying out the difference between AtMostOncePerRetry and AtLeastOncePerRetry in Durable Lambda, the kind of distinction that matters once you're building anything stateful. Next, he moved up a level of abstraction, implementing the Saga pattern with Durable Functions to show how to coordinate multi-step transactions without losing consistency. By June he was pulling humans into the loop, building an e-commerce workflow that paused for approval mid-execution, a pattern that's easy to describe and genuinely fiddly to get right. August brought him back into the weeds with a deep dive on serialization and deserialization inside Durable Functions, the unglamorous plumbing that makes all the previous posts actually work in production. Finally, he pivoted from Durable Function internals to something every builder eventually needs: a custom AWS Cognito login page with passkey support, closing the run on a practical, ship-it note. Five posts, one pattern: master the primitive from the inside out, then go build something people actually log into.
