AWS Builder Center Badge Tracker: Step-by-Step Guide

This guide explains how to use the AWS Builder Center Badge Tracker, from first-time setup through daily activity tracking, badge progress, weekly goals, and backups.

Important: This is a private manual tracker. It does not connect to AWS Builder Center, verify official badge eligibility, request passwords, or store AWS credentials. You record your own activity, and the tracker calculates progress from those records.

1. Complete first-time setup

When you first open the tracker, you will see the onboarding screen.
Enter the following information:
  1. Full name
  2. AWS Builder ID
  3. Starting date
  4. Select any AWS Builder Center badges you had already earned before using the tracker.
  5. Select Start Tracking.

Existing badges and new streaks

Already-earned badges and newly recorded activity are intentionally kept separate.
For example, you may have earned the 7-Day Visit Streak badge before starting this tracker. You can mark that badge as already earned, while your newly tracked visit streak starts from the dates you record now.
The tracker does not invent previous activity. If you want earlier activity to count toward a streak, add those dates manually through the Daily Tracker.

2. Understand the dashboard

After setup, you will arrive at Your Builder Journey.
The dashboard gives you a quick overview of:
  • Completed badges out of 21
  • Overall completion percentage
  • Current daily streak
  • Days tracking
  • Today's checklist
  • Next milestone progress
  • Quick Wins and Consistency progress
  • Suggested next activities
The goal is to make your next action obvious without having to manually check every badge requirement.

3. Complete Today's Tasks

The Today card contains five manual activities:
  1. Visit Builder Center
  2. Read an article
  3. Leave a meaningful comment
  4. Like content
  5. Vote on a Wish
Check an activity only after you have completed it. Each change is saved immediately in your browser.
When all five activities are complete, the tracker shows 5/5 complete and displays a completed routine message.
Tip: The Mark today's routine complete button is only a shortcut. Use it after you have actually completed and confirmed all five activities.

4. Use the Daily Tracker for any date

Open Daily Tracker from the sidebar or mobile navigation when you need to record activity for a previous, current, or future date.
  1. Select the date.
  2. Check the activities completed on that date.
  3. Review the streak summary.
  4. Repeat for other dates if you are adding historical activity.
The tracker recalculates visit, comment, and like streaks automatically whenever your activity history changes.

How streaks work

A streak is based on consecutive recorded calendar dates.
  • Record an activity on consecutive days to extend the current streak.
  • Missing a required day breaks the current streak.
  • Historical activity remains available and contributes to your longest streak.
  • Adding a missing date later can reconnect a streak if the recorded dates become consecutive.
This means your current streak and your historical longest streak are treated as two different pieces of information.

5. Use the Activity Calendar

Open Calendar to see your activity history visually.
  1. Use the left and right arrows to move between months.
  2. Select any date to edit that day's activities.
  3. Review the selected date's activity summary.
The calendar uses different visual states to make the information easy to scan:
  • Blue border: current day when it is not selected
  • Orange border: selected date
  • Green checkmark: all five daily activities were completed
  • Blue activity marker: some activity was recorded
The calendar supports both past and future dates, allowing you to correct or add activity records whenever needed.

6. Review badge progress

Open Badges to view all 21 badge cards.
You can:
  • Search by badge name or description
  • Filter by completion state, tier, or streak length
  • Open a badge to view detailed progress
  • Update count-based progress where applicable
  • Mark a badge as Already earned
  • Add an optional completion date
Use Already earned only for badges you actually earned outside the tracker or before you started recording activity here.
This allows the dashboard to reflect your existing progress without pretending that the tracker recorded your historical activity.

7. Track count-based badges

Not every badge depends on a daily streak. Some badges use activity counts.
Open the relevant badge card and enter the current progress value.
Examples include:
  • Discussion Debut: comments made
  • Knowledge Seeker: articles read
  • Idea Influencer: votes received on Wishes
  • Conversation Starter: comments with replies
After saving a value, the tracker updates the progress bar and badge status automatically.

8. Track article likes and comment likes

Two badges use individual content records:
  • Valued Creator: 5 articles with at least 10 likes each
  • Meaningful Contributor: 5 comments with at least 10 likes each
To add a record:
  1. Open the relevant badge card.
  2. Select Add article or Add comment.
  3. Enter a label for the content.
  4. Enter the number of likes.
  5. Save the record.
Only records with 10 or more likes count toward the corresponding badge requirement.
This approach lets you track individual qualifying articles and comments rather than entering one combined number.

9. Track weekly goals

Open Weekly Goals to manage the consistency-based trackers.

Wish voting

Record a Wish vote through the Daily Tracker on the actual date you voted.
The tracker determines the Monday–Sunday week automatically from that date.

Article publishing

To record a published article:
  1. Select Add published article.
  2. Enter the article title.
  3. Select the actual publication date.
  4. Select Save article.
This record is used for the 4-Week Article Publishing Streak.
It does not automatically change your First Article badge and does not create an article-like record for Valued Creator.
These are intentionally separate progress paths so that completing one requirement does not accidentally count toward another.

10. Update your profile and completed badges

Open Profile & Settings to manage your tracker information.
You can:
  • Edit your full name, Builder ID, and starting date
  • Review and change badges marked as already earned
  • Add or remove optional completion dates
  • Download a backup
  • Import a backup
  • Clear all tracker data
Changes made in the Completed Badges section are saved immediately.

11. Back up and restore your data

Because your tracker data is stored locally in your browser, creating backups is important if you plan to change browsers or devices.
Select Download Backup to export your tracker data as a JSON file.
The backup includes your:
  • Profile
  • Daily activities
  • Badge status
  • Weekly entries
  • Article records
  • Comment records
  • Tracker settings
To restore your progress:
  1. Open Profile & Settings.
  2. Select Import Backup.
  3. Choose your previously downloaded JSON file.
  4. Confirm that your profile and progress have been restored.
Keep the JSON backup somewhere safe if the data is important to you.

12. Clear all data carefully

The Clear All Data option permanently removes the tracker's stored data from the current browser.
The confirmation dialog explains that this includes:
  • Profile details
  • Already-earned badge selections
  • Daily activity history
  • Streak information
  • Weekly progress
  • Article and comment records
  • Other tracker settings
After confirmation, the application returns to the first-time setup screen.
Important: If you may want your data later, download a backup before clearing everything.

13. A simple daily routine

You don't need to spend a lot of time managing the tracker.
A simple daily routine is:
  1. Visit Builder Center.
  2. Read one useful article.
  3. Leave one meaningful comment.
  4. Like useful content.
  5. Vote on a Wish.
  6. Open the tracker and update today's activities.
  7. Check the dashboard for your next milestone.
Over time, these small actions support the same loop that inspired the project:
Learn → Build → Share → Repeat

Want to see how I built it?

If you're interested in the development side rather than just using the tracker, I've also written a separate article explaining how I built the application.
It covers the Vanilla JavaScript architecture, localStorage data model, streak calculations, badge logic, calendar system, responsive UI, and the decisions behind keeping the application completely local-first.

The tracker is designed to stay simple: record what you actually do, let the application calculate the progress, and focus on the next small action.
