PromptLens: Making AI Prompt Structure Visible with AI-DLC and Kiro

PromptLens is a browser-based tool that analyzes AI prompts using five structural components and shows users what is missing, why it matters, and how to improve their prompt. This project was built as part of the AWS AI-DLC workshop using Kiro.

The ai-dlc workshop i had to build something and i went with promptlens. small web app. you paste a prompt in and it shows you how its built.
reason i picked it? i keep getting bad answers from ai and just sitting there like what did i even do wrong. usually can't tell. so yeah this is me trying to make that less annoying.
it looks at 5 things. role, context, task, constraints, output.
each one gets detected / partial / missing. then a score.
then it hands you back a cleaner version of your prompt.
did the whole thing in kiro. initialization, intent capture, mockups, approval, handoff.
sounds like alot of steps but really it was just deciding what the problem is, who its for, those 5 components, the flow, the look.
all before touching code.
built with html css js. no backend, no api. thought about it and figured it wasnt needed, runs in the browser fine. analysis is just keywords and rules. when something's missing it throws in a placeholder instead of making stuff up about the user. that part i cared about.didnt want it inventing details that were never there.
then kiro hit its monthly limit right when i was moving to the next stage. so i couldnt finish the rest through kiro. annoying. just kept going with the artifacts and decisions i already had.
tested it on short prompts like "explain x" and longer ones with everything filled in. checked the blueprint showed up right and the improved prompt came out.
what i got from it. ai-dlc isnt just a code machine which is kinda what i assumed.
the deciding stuff before building is what actually helped. by the time i coded i knew what i was making.
the artifacts and approval points did more than i expected.
good exercise overall. also learned something less fun, if your whole flow depends on one ai tool youre kinda stuck the second you hit a limit. worth knowing i guess.
