Atlas Research: Ask a question. Explore the answer on a globe.
Atlas Research turns geographic questions into visual answers. It combines an interactive globe with an AI research agent, helping you explore public datasets through ordinary language.

Start with a question: “Which European volcanoes are higher than 2,000 metres?” You don’t need to write SQL or configure a mapping tool—just describe what you want to investigate.

The agent inspects the available data, runs a query and maps the matching records. An activity panel shows what happened, while the results remain available for closer inspection.

The same workflow supports very different interests. Explore Disney theme parks, browse observatories or investigate heritage sites. Rotate and zoom the globe, open photographs, and select a place to see its details or ask a follow-up question.

Atlas Research is designed for researchers and educators exploring places, patterns and public data. Students can connect geographic records to real locations; journalists and analysts can use it for initial exploration of location-based stories. Photographs, source links and record details stay close to the map.

Available datasets span volcanoes and eruptions, earthquakes, historical tsunamis, parks, observatories, temperature observations and country boundaries. The current version explores existing dataset snapshots, so answers reflect each source’s coverage and date.

Behind the scenes, the Strands Agents SDK connects the model to tools that inspect datasets, run read-only DuckDB queries and request clarification. FastAPI manages investigations, SQLite preserves workspace history, and Globe.gl with Three.js renders the results.

The architecture keeps model credentials on the server and restricts the query engine’s access to files and networks. It also includes an entrypoint and container recipe for a possible AWS AgentCore deployment; that deployment has not been performed.
Research can continue beyond the globe: CSV downloads support further analysis, while reproducible ZIP packages preserve queries and supporting data. From the first question to the source record, Atlas Research keeps exploration and evidence connected.
