I recently worked on a lightweight real-time dashboard built with FastAPI, WebSockets, and aiomysql. The goal was simple: fetch live data from a MySQL database and push updates to the frontend instantly.
This project is documented in a guide that covers the full setup process, including Python installation, package installation, server startup, and the complete main.py implementation. The repository also includes the PDF guide and the Python source file for easy reference.

What this project demonstrates

  • Setting up Python and the required libraries
  • Building an async FastAPI backend
  • Connecting to MySQL using aiomysql
  • Implementing a secure WebSocket endpoint
  • Sending live database records to the client in real time
  • Running the app with uvicorn

Why this approach matters

Traditional request/response APIs are great for many use cases, but real-time applications need faster data delivery. By combining FastAPI with WebSockets, we can create responsive systems that update instantly without repeated polling.
This structure is especially useful for dashboards, monitoring tools, live admin panels, and student or record management systems.

Repository

The repository contains:
  • The Complete Guide (PDF)
  • The Source Code File (main.py)

Final thoughts

This was a great exercise in combining backend performance, asynchronous programming, and real-time communication into one practical solution. I am looking forward to extending it further.
