Free Premium Tech Every Student Should Claim in 2026 (A Verified Guide)
A verified 2026 guide to free premium student tools — AWS Skill Builder, GitHub Student Pack, Google Gemini, Azure for Students, and more — with real signup steps.
If you're a college student, you're probably sitting on access to hundreds of dollars worth of premium developer and AI tools — most students just don't know these exist or assume the verification process is a hassle. It isn't. I recently went through the AWS verification myself, and it took about 15 minutes start to finish. Here's everything I found, verified as current for 2026.
☁️ AWS — Skill Builder Premium + Certification Voucher
What you get: 12 months of AWS Skill Builder Premium (normally $449/year) — 900+ courses, hands-on labs, and official certification exam prep.
How to claim it:
- Go to the official AWS Builder Center site and create a free AWS Builder ID.
- Head to the Student Rewards tab and verify through SheerID using your university email or student ID card.
- Complete your Builder Center profile (photo + About section) — this is what actually triggers your Skill Builder Premium activation code.
The badge system: Once verified, you earn digital badges through community activity (publishing articles, commenting, staying active) — not just course completion:
- 7 badges → $10 AWS Cloud Credits
- 14 badges → +$20 AWS Cloud Credits ($30 total)
- 21 badges → a $100 AWS Certification exam voucher — enough to cover the AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner exam fee entirely
Good to know: these credits and vouchers apply only within AWS's ecosystem (real usage costs or exam fees); they can't be withdrawn as cash. Also, if you subscribe and later see a "subscription canceled, couldn't bill payment method" email, don't panic: your free access likely just needs to be re-triggered from the Subscriptions page directly (not via email links to avoid phishing risk).
🐙 GitHub Student Developer Pack
What you get: A bundle of 50+ professional developer tools, most notably:
- Free JetBrains All Products license (~$289/year value — IntelliJ, PyCharm, and more)
- $200 DigitalOcean platform credit
- Azure for Students — $100 in credits, no card required
- Free domain + SSL, GitKraken, DataCamp months, and more
How to claim it: Go to education.github.com/pack, verify with your school email or a photo of your student ID/enrollment letter.
Note for 2026: GitHub Copilot's free student tier is currently paused for new sign-ups due to compute demand; students verified before the pause keep it. New pack members get GitHub Copilot for free instead. Worth checking the live pack page since this changes.
✨ Google Gemini — 12 Months Free
Google's Back-to-School 2026 campaign (running through December 31, 2026) gives eligible college students a full year of a paid Gemini plan for free:
- US students: Google AI Pro free for 12 months ($240/year value)
- Students in 140+ other countries (Pakistan included): Google AI Plus free for 12 months
Includes Gemini access, NotebookLM Plus, and a new Student Hub with study notebooks and quizzes. Verification runs through SheerID with your school email, it takes a few minutes.
Important: set a calendar reminder before your 12 months are up. It auto-renews at full price if you don't cancel.
🪟 Microsoft
- Azure for Students: $100 in Azure credits, no credit card required, verified via school email.
- Microsoft 365 Education: many universities provide this directly — free Office apps and Teams. Check with your university's IT department first, since you may already have access without separate signup.
🧠 OpenAI / ChatGPT
As of 2026, there's no standing global student discount for ChatGPT Plus. OpenAI ran a free trial for US/Canada students from March to May 2025, but it hasn't been extended. It's worth checking back periodically, since AI companies' student offers change fast (Google's 2026 campaign is a good example of this).
🧰 Other Tools Worth Checking Out
A few more platforms commonly offer student plans or discounts; verify current availability yourself before relying on these, since terms change often:
- JetBrains (also included via GitHub Student Pack) — free All Products license for students
- Canva Pro — free for verified students
- Notion — free Education Plus plan with a school email
- Figma — free Education plan (Figma + FigJam)
- DigitalOcean — cloud hosting credits (via GitHub Student Pack)
- Namecheap / GitHub Student Pack domains — free domain + SSL for a year
- DataCamp — free months of data science courses (via GitHub Student Pack)
- GitKraken — free Pro Git client access
- Microsoft Copilot — student discount on paid tiers after a free trial
- Perplexity Pro — has offered student promotions in the past; check current status
- Unreal Engine / Epic Games student resources — free learning content for game dev
- Autodesk (AutoCAD, Fusion 360, Maya, etc.) — free education licenses for students
The Bottom Line
Most of these use the same verification method (SheerID, with your university email or student ID), and none of them cost anything to claim. If you're enrolled right now, there's no real reason not to grab all of these; worst case, you get free software you never fully use; best case, you save hundreds of dollars a year while building real skills and deploying real projects.
If you've found other legit student offers not listed here, drop them in the comments — always good to keep this list current for others in the community.
