Congratulations Johannes Geiger !
The 5-Timers Club just got a little more crowded as we welcome Johannes! Johannes builds infrastructure for multi-account AWS environments, focusing on credential patterns, secrets management, and event-driven architectures that handle real complexity. On their fictional plaque it reads:
Johannes writes about the hard problems. His Workload Credentials Provider piece tests four approaches to loading secrets in Lambda, comparing Direct SDK calls against pre-fetching and role assumption. He runs the benchmarks. Direct hits cold starts in 500ms. The indirect approaches add 250ms overhead but gain caching. He explains the tradeoff clearly, showing when each pattern makes sense. His Aurora DSQL CDC article walks through a full event-driven pipeline. He builds infrastructure with CDK, creates a Kinesis stream for database changes, wires three Lambdas together through SQS, and shows the Rust code that actually runs. The table design stays simple. The event flow is clear. Cold start matters but so does operational simplicity.
His focus is multi-account access patterns. Cross-account credential management. Secrets that live in one account but Lambdas read them from another. MSK clusters that span accounts. These are the problems most tutorials skip over. Most projects face them anyway. Johannes documents the setup, the permissions, the failure modes. He builds in TypeScript with CDK and Rust when performance matters. He tests locally first. He benchmarks. He doesn't just show the code. He shows the setup, the tradeoffs, the gotchas, and why each choice matters.
