Weekend Challenge: Turn One Annoying Task Into an App

Build an app per the instructions in this article, and win an AWS Builder Jacket! (Limited quantities). Runs July 31 - August 3.

Senior Product Manager
Welcome to the Weekend Challenge where you will Turn One Annoying Task Into an App.
Last weekend you told us what you'd build . This weekend, let's build it. This is your chance to make something useful, learn new AWS skills, and earn an awesome prize, all in one weekend. The first 73 qualifying submissions earn an AWS Builder Jacket. No random drawing. If you complete the challenge and are one of the first 73 to submit, you win. Let's go!

This week's community twist 🎲

Community pick. We're kicking off with the most-upvoted (liked) idea from last weekend's comment sweepstakes, featured right here from Binod Prasad Joshi :
FitIntelligence is an AI-powered fitness coach that automates workout form analysis and secure gym check-ins. One annoying problem it solves is wondering whether you're performing exercises correctly and manually tracking gym attendance. A standout feature is its AI biomechanics coach that analyzes movement in real time and provides personalized feedback, while geofenced biometric check-ins ensure users are actually at the gym. It's powered by Amazon Bedrock for intelligent coaching, Amazon Rekognition for verification, and Amazon EC2 to run the backend.
You can build this idea, a variation of it, or build your own app, or remix a fellow builder's concept with a shout-out to them.

What you'll build 🏗️

Build a simple app that automatically handles one annoying part of your week. Pick a small, repetitive task and make an app that takes care of it. Here are some ideas to spark your creativity:
• An app that sorts or triages something for you
• An app that drafts a routine message or update
• An app that gathers what you need in one place
• An app that automates a weekly chore
Deploy using AWS Free Tier services. For new accounts, access up to $200 in Free Tier credits covering Amazon Bedrock, Nova models, Lambda, and more.

Win an AWS Builder Jacket 🏆

The first 73 qualifying submissions will each receive an AWS Builder Jacket (approx. $99 value). There is no lottery and no voting on the jacket. Be one of the first 73 to submit a qualifying entry and the jacket is yours.

How Evaluation Works 📋

Submissions are evaluated on a Pass/Fail basis across three categories:
  1. Completeness: Did you deliver everything? (500+ word article covering all sections, working link)
  2. Relevance & Functionality: Is it actually an app or tool that works?
  3. AWS Service Usage: Does it use at least one AWS service, clearly described in the article?
Pass all three = you're in. First 73 to pass = jacket winners.

Tips for Success 💡

  • Start simple: A focused tool that does one thing well is perfect. You don't need to over-engineer it
  • Use AWS Free Tier: Amazon EC2, Amazon S3, Amazon Bedrock with Nova models, Lambda, Amplify, and DynamoDB are great starting points.
  • Show it working: Screenshots, a video walkthrough, or a live URL all count
  • Be specific: The more detail you share about your process, the more helpful your article will be for other builders
  • Deploy early: Don't wait until Sunday night :)
