Introduction

Automation becomes even more valuable when paired with generative AI. Instead of manually looking for motivation, productivity advice, or AWS learning resources every morning, I wanted to build a completely serverless solution that generates a fresh AI-powered morning brief automatically.
Using Amazon Bedrock, AWS Lambda, Amazon EventBridge, Amazon S3, and IAM, I built a system that creates a personalized morning brief every day at 6:00 AM IST and stores it in Amazon S3 without any manual intervention.
This project demonstrates how serverless services and generative AI can be combined to create practical daily automation.

Problem Statement

Many professionals begin their day by checking multiple websites for:
  • Motivation
  • Productivity advice
  • Technical learning resources
Instead of manually collecting this information every morning, I wanted a solution that would:
  • Run automatically
  • Generate fresh AI content
  • Store the results
  • Require zero infrastructure management
The goal was to build a lightweight serverless application that performs the entire workflow autonomously.

AWS Services Used
  • Amazon Bedrock
  • Amazon Nova Lite
  • AWS Lambda
  • Amazon EventBridge
  • Amazon S3
  • AWS IAM
  • Amazon CloudWatch

How It Works

Every morning:
  1. EventBridge triggers the Lambda function.
  2. Lambda sends a prompt to Amazon Bedrock.
  3. Amazon Nova Lite generates a new morning brief.
  4. Lambda creates a timestamped text file.
  5. The file is uploaded automatically to Amazon S3.
  6. CloudWatch records execution logs.
The entire workflow is serverless and requires no virtual machines or manual scheduling.

Lambda Function Overview

The Lambda function is responsible for orchestrating the workflow.
Its responsibilities include:
  • Connecting to Amazon Bedrock
  • Sending the prompt
  • Receiving the AI-generated response
  • Creating a timestamped filename
  • Uploading the output to Amazon S3
Example filename:
1
brief-2026-07-18-06-00-00.txt
This makes every generated brief unique and easy to organize.

Prompt Engineering

The prompt sent to Amazon Bedrock is intentionally concise to encourage structured output.
Example prompt:
1

4
5

10
Generate today's morning brief.

Include:

- Good morning message
- Motivational quote
- Productivity tip
- AWS learning tip

Keep the response under 150 words.
The generated response includes:
  • Greeting
  • Motivational quote
  • Productivity advice
  • AWS learning recommendation
Because the content is AI-generated, every day's brief is different.

Scheduling with Amazon EventBridge

Initially, the rule was configured to execute every five minutes for testing.
After validating the workflow, the schedule was updated to run once every morning at 6:00 AM IST.
Cron expression:
1
cron(30 0 * * ? *)
Since EventBridge schedules use UTC, 00:30 UTC corresponds to 06:00 IST.
This allows the workflow to execute automatically every morning without any manual interaction.

Storing Results in Amazon S3

Each generated brief is stored as a text file inside an S3 bucket.
Example:
1
brief-2026-07-18-06-00-00.txt
Benefits of S3 storage include:
  • Highly durable storage
  • Automatic scalability
  • Easy retrieval
  • Version-like history through timestamped filenames
This approach also makes it straightforward to integrate with future applications such as dashboards or mobile apps.

IAM Permissions

To allow the Lambda function to execute successfully, the execution role was granted permissions for:
  • AWSLambdaBasicExecutionRole
  • AmazonBedrockFullAccess
  • AmazonS3FullAccess
These permissions enable:
  • Invoking Amazon Bedrock models
  • Writing objects to Amazon S3
  • Sending logs to CloudWatch

Monitoring with CloudWatch

Amazon CloudWatch automatically records:
  • Invocation logs
  • Execution duration
  • Memory usage
  • Errors
  • Successful executions
CloudWatch provides visibility into the application's health without requiring additional monitoring tools.

GitHub Repository

The complete source code is available on GitHub.
Repository contents include:
  • Lambda function
  • Project documentation
  • Architecture overview
  • Setup instructions
  • Screenshots
GitHub makes it easy for others to reproduce and extend the project.

Lessons Learned

This project reinforced several important AWS concepts:
  • Designing serverless workflows
  • Scheduling tasks with EventBridge
  • Invoking foundation models through Amazon Bedrock
  • Managing IAM permissions securely
  • Automating cloud workflows
  • Persisting generated AI content in Amazon S3
  • Monitoring applications using CloudWatch
It also demonstrated how quickly a practical AI application can be built using managed AWS services.

Future Improvements

Possible enhancements include:
  • Sending the morning brief via Amazon SES email
  • Delivering notifications through Amazon SNS
  • Publishing to Slack or Microsoft Teams
  • Creating a web dashboard with API Gateway
  • Storing historical data in DynamoDB
  • Supporting multiple users with personalized prompts
  • Adding voice output using Amazon Polly
  • Providing multilingual morning briefs

Conclusion

This project showcases how Amazon Bedrock can be combined with AWS serverless services to automate useful daily workflows.
By integrating Amazon Bedrock, AWS Lambda, Amazon EventBridge, Amazon S3, IAM, and CloudWatch, I built an application that generates and stores an AI-powered morning brief every morning without requiring any servers or manual intervention.
It is a simple example, but it highlights the power of combining generative AI with event-driven serverless architecture to build scalable, automated cloud solutions.
