Kiro Hook: Breaking Change Sentinel

Breaking Change Sentinel is a Kiro hook that automatically analyzes source file diffs on save and detects changes that could break downstream code. It flags public API signature changes, removed or renamed exports, prop modifications, and return shape differences — then produces a concise risk report with specific follow-up actions. The goal is to catch breaking changes early before they cascade into failing tests or stale documentation.

Happy 1st Birthday, @kirodotdev! 🎂

To celebrate Kiro’s birthday week, I wanted to share a hook I built to help keep complex codebases stable.

🛡️ Breaking Change Sentinel

The Breaking Change Sentinel is a Kiro hook that automatically analyzes source file diffs on save and flags changes that could break downstream code.

What it catches:

  • Public API signature changes
  • Removed or renamed exports
  • Prop changes
  • Behavior shifts that can ripple into tests or documentation
The hook produces a concise risk report with specific follow-up actions, so issues are caught early before they become production problems.

The Magic: Semantic Reasoning

What I love most is that I built it with Kiro’s askAgent action. This lets the hook reason across the codebase semantically instead of relying on brittle static checks.
