Building DevTrack: Manage Projects, Build Your Portfolio with Kiro

As developers, we spend countless hours building projects, completing tasks, solving problems, and learning new technologies. Yet when it comes time to showcase our work, many of us struggle to maintain a portfolio that truly reflects our experience. This challenge inspired the creation of DevTrack — a platform designed to help developers manage their projects while automatically building a professional portfolio from their work.

Full-stack developer, GenAI engineer, and open-source builder.

The Problem

Most developers use one set of tools for project management and another for portfolio creation.
Project management tools help track tasks and progress, but they rarely translate that work into a portfolio. On the other hand, portfolio platforms require manual updates, which often means projects are forgotten, documentation becomes outdated, and achievements never get showcased.
As a result, many talented developers have portfolios that don't accurately represent their skills or accomplishments.

The Idea Behind DevTrack

The vision was simple:
What if managing your projects and building your portfolio happened in the same place?
DevTrack bridges this gap by allowing developers to organize projects, track progress, document achievements, and automatically create a professional portfolio based on their actual work.
Instead of spending hours updating portfolio pages, developers can focus on building, while DevTrack captures the journey.

Core Features

Project Management

Developers can create and manage projects, organize tasks, and monitor progress through a clean and intuitive dashboard.

Progress Tracking

Track milestones, achievements, and project status to maintain visibility across ongoing work.

Portfolio Generation

Completed projects can be transformed into portfolio-ready content, making it easier to showcase skills and accomplishments.

Developer-Centric Workflow

Unlike generic productivity tools, DevTrack is designed specifically for developers, students, freelancers, and aspiring engineers.

Modern Experience

A responsive interface ensures a smooth experience across desktop and mobile devices.

Building with Kiro

One of the most exciting parts of developing DevTrack was leveraging Kiro throughout the development process.
Kiro became more than just a coding assistant—it acted as a development accelerator that helped transform ideas into working features much faster.

Faster Feature Development

Kiro helped break down complex features into manageable implementation steps, allowing rapid iteration during development.

UI and Workflow Refinement

From dashboard layouts to user flows, Kiro assisted in exploring different approaches and improving the overall user experience.

Code Generation and Productivity

Routine coding tasks, boilerplate generation, and repetitive implementation details were significantly accelerated, enabling more focus on product strategy and user value.

Iterative Improvement

As the product evolved, Kiro made it easier to experiment, refine features, and validate ideas without slowing down development velocity.

Lessons Learned

Building DevTrack reinforced several important lessons:
  • Developers need tools designed around their workflows.
  • Portfolios should evolve naturally from real work.
  • AI-assisted development can dramatically improve productivity.
  • Rapid iteration leads to better products when paired with user feedback.
  • Simplicity often creates the best user experience.

What's Next?

DevTrack is continuing to evolve with plans for:
  • Enhanced portfolio customization
  • Team collaboration features
  • AI-powered project insights
  • Developer analytics and achievements
  • Integrations with GitHub and other developer tools
The goal remains the same: helping developers spend less time managing documentation and more time building great software.

Final Thoughts

DevTrack was born from a simple observation: developers already create valuable work every day, but that work often never makes it into their portfolios.
By combining project management and portfolio building into a single platform, DevTrack aims to help developers document their journey, showcase their achievements, and focus on what they do best—building.
