Audience → Hook → Message → Visuals → Action: AWS New Voices 2026 Cohort 1
My experience in AWS New Voices 2026 and the lessons I learned about audience-first storytelling, presentation design, and public speaking.
I chose AWS New Voices 2026 Batch 1 to make the discipline of becoming an early bird. Five weeks of 4:30 AM IST sessions ...A lot of alarms from 3 AM onwards till 4:30
AWS New Voices is more than a speaker training program. It is a journey that teaches you how to transform technical knowledge into meaningful conversations that resonate with people. Throughout the program, I had the opportunity to learn alongside more than 100 AWS Community Builders from different parts of the world, participate in breakout room discussions, and deliver lightning talks in front of peers who shared the same goal—becoming better communicators.
Week 1: Audience First
One of the most impactful lessons was understanding that a talk is not about the speaker—it is about the audience.
We explored questions such as:
- Who is your audience?
- What do they already know?
- What do they need to know?
- What transformation do you want them to experience?
We also learned that audiences are silently asking three questions:
- Who are you?
- Why should I care?
- How will this help me?
Answering those questions early helps build trust and connection.

🎯 Know Your Audience and Tell Your Credibility
Hi everyone, I'm Abinaya. I have 3.5 years of experience, and I currently work on cloud migration and data engineering. I'm also an AWS Community Builder who shares technical blogs, podcasts, and hosts community events.
Before we begin, how many of you have built a project but weren't sure where to host it?
That's exactly the problem cloud computing helps solve, and today we'll explore how AWS makes that possible.

Week 2: Grab Attention
A great talk begins with a great hook.
We learned different ways to capture attention:
- Storytelling
- Bold statements
- Questions
- Statistics
- Visuals
- Quotes
The goal was to create curiosity, establish credibility, and keep the audience engaged from the very beginning.

🎣 Example Now Comes the Hook (Week 2)
Option 1: Statement
Most people use cloud every day without realizing it.
Option 2: Curiosity
What if I told you that a startup can serve millions of users without owning a single physical server?
Option 3: Story
During my college days, I thought building an application was the hard part. Later, I realized hosting, scaling, and maintaining it was an even bigger challenge.
Option 4: Statistics
Every minute, millions of requests are processed through cloud infrastructure across the world.
Week 3: Structure Matters
A powerful presentation is not about sharing everything you know.
Instead, it is about delivering one clear message.
We focused on organizing talks with a clear beginning, middle, and end while identifying key takeaways that audiences could remember long after the session ended.

Aws New voice program 2026 Week 3
Example: AWS Cloud Computing
After your hook:
What if I told you that a startup can serve millions of users without owning a single physical server?
Now, don't jump into 20 AWS services.
Instead, create a simple structure.
🏗️ Structure
Today we'll answer three questions:1. Why do companies move to the cloud?
2. What are the core AWS services you should know?
3. How does cloud help applications scale?
Immediately, the audience knows where you're taking them.
Body
Point 1 – Why Cloud?
Imagine buying a car when you only need a taxi today. That's how traditional infrastructure often works.
Point 2 – Core Services
Let's simplify AWS into three services:EC2 → ComputeS3 → StorageRDS → Database
No overwhelming service list.
Point 3 – Real World Example
Think about Netflix.Millions of users stream content simultaneously.Cloud infrastructure helps them scale without buying servers for peak demand.
Week 4: Visuals That Support the Message
This week changed how I think about slides.
Instead of filling slides with text, we learned how visuals can support a message and guide audience attention. The F.O.C.U.S framework encouraged us to frame ideas, create clarity, use visuals effectively, and simplify content.

Remember the project we discussed earlier?Imagine it starts with one laptop. As more users join, AWS provides the infrastructure needed to scale without you buying new servers.

Week 5: Lightning Talks and Delivery
The final week brought everything together.
We practiced our talks, managed timing, refined our delivery, and focused on ending with a clear call to action. We were reminded that being nervous is normal. Preparation, practice, and even a simple breathing exercise can help transform nervous energy into confidence.

📢 Call to Action
For a technical talk:
I encourage you to create an AWS Free Tier account, explore a service like EC2 or S3, and take your first step into cloud computing.
❤️ Personal Reflection
One thing I learned from AWS New Voices is that I often think not ready to speak because we don't know enough.
Don't be nervous about knowing everything.
Everyone in the audience is learning, and many have been in the same position you are today.
Takeaway:
If I had to summarize the entire program in one line, it would be:
Audience → Hook → Message → Visuals → Action
This simple framework has completely changed how I think about creating presentations and technical talks.

Aws New voice program 2026
A huge thank you to Meridith Grundei and Gary Grundei for their coaching, encouragement, and energy throughout the program.
I am also grateful to every Community Builder I met during breakout sessions and lightning talks. Hearing stories, perspectives, and experiences from people across the globe
AWS New Voices helped me become more intentional about communication, storytelling, and audience connection.
Now, it's time to put those lessons into practice.
I am looking forward to sharing more talks and contributing to community events.
If you found this reflection useful, I'd love to hear your thoughts. What is one lesson that helped you become a better communicator or speaker?Feel free to share it in the comments below. 😊
