Building Hireon: Using Amazon Nova to Give Every Candidate a Fair Shot at Interviews
An AI platform that helps candidates prepare for interviews through personalized analysis, voice-based mock interviews, and actionable feedback—powered by Amazon Bedrock and the Amazon Nova models.
The job market today is tougher than it has been in years.
Across industries, candidates are competing with thousands of applicants for the same role. But after talking with students, early-career professionals, and job seekers, we realized something important:
The hardest part isn’t getting the interview.
It’s surviving it.
It’s surviving it.
Many talented candidates fail interviews not because they lack the skills, but because they lack clarity and confidence going into them.
They don’t know what questions will be asked.
They don’t know how their resume will be challenged.
And they don’t know if they’re preparing for the right things.
They don’t know how their resume will be challenged.
And they don’t know if they’re preparing for the right things.
So preparation becomes guesswork.
People scroll through random online advice, copy-paste their resumes into generic AI chatbots, and rehearse answers that may never be asked.
That experience inspired us to build something different.
The Idea Behind Hireon
We built Hireon, an AI-powered interview preparation platform designed to simulate the real interview experience.
Instead of simply generating lists of questions, Hireon analyzes a candidate’s profile and the role they are applying for, then builds a personalized interview preparation system.
The goal is simple:
Replace guesswork with structured preparation.
To make this possible, we built Hireon using the Amazon Bedrock platform and the Amazon Nova family of foundation models.
These models allow us to combine reasoning, voice interaction, and multimodal analysis into one unified workflow.
Step 1: Understanding the Candidate
The process begins with two inputs:
- A candidate’s resume
- The job description they are applying for
Using Amazon Nova 2 Lite, Hireon analyzes these inputs to understand how well the candidate aligns with the role.
Within seconds, the system generates:
- A role alignment score
- A skills mapping visualization
- A detailed overview of strengths and potential gaps
But we wanted to go further.
Thinking Like the Interviewer
One of the most valuable features of Hireon is something we call the Resume Risk Detector.
Instead of simply evaluating a resume positively, Hireon attempts to think like a hiring manager.
It identifies areas that interviewers may challenge, such as:
- vague achievements
- missing measurable results
- frequent role changes
- unclear technical depth
Hireon then provides defense strategies, helping candidates confidently explain these areas during interviews.
To further support candidates, Hireon also generates:
- A custom 60-second elevator pitch
- Predicted interview questions tailored to the company
- A structured interview game plan
Simulating the Real Interview Experience
Preparation alone isn’t enough.
Candidates need the opportunity to practice speaking and responding in real time.
To enable this, Hireon includes a live interview simulator powered by Amazon Nova 2 Sonic.
Unlike traditional tools that rely on text prompts, Nova Sonic enables real-time speech-to-speech interaction.
This allows candidates to participate in a mock interview that feels much closer to a real conversation with an interviewer.
Hireon offers two modes:
Standard Mode
A supportive environment designed for learning and practice.
Pressure Mode
A more intense mode where the AI challenges answers and pushes candidates to defend their thinking.
This allows users to experience the kind of pressure that often occurs in real interviews.
Multimodal Interview Feedback
After the interview session ends, Hireon generates a comprehensive performance report.
Using Nova’s multimodal reasoning capabilities, the system evaluates:
- communication clarity
- technical reasoning
- confidence and response structure
Candidates receive:
- a readiness score
- a radar chart of key interview skills
- identified strengths and improvement areas
- a targeted Crash Plan for further preparation
In addition, Hireon can analyze webcam snapshots captured during the interview to provide insights into non-verbal communication, such as eye contact and facial expressions.
These insights help candidates understand not just what they say, but how they present themselves.
Real-World Applications
While Hireon was initially designed for job seekers, we quickly realized its potential impact across multiple communities.
Students Preparing for Their First Job
Many students struggle with interviews because they lack experience. Hireon provides a safe environment to practice.
Career Switchers
Professionals transitioning into new industries can better understand what interviewers expect.
Interview Preparation Communities
Training platforms and career coaches can integrate tools like Hireon to support structured practice.
Hiring Teams
Organizations could even use systems like Hireon to simulate interview scenarios and refine evaluation criteria.
Ultimately, the goal is to make the interview process more transparent, structured, and fair.
Encouraging Adoption
To make Hireon accessible to as many people as possible, we envision several adoption pathways:
- Universities and career centers integrating it into job readiness programs
- Online learning platforms offering it as an interview training tool
- Developer communities and bootcamps using it for technical interview simulations
By embedding AI-driven preparation tools into existing learning ecosystems, we can ensure candidates from diverse backgrounds gain access to high-quality interview preparation resources.
Looking Ahead
Interviews are one of the most important gateways in a person’s career.
Yet for many candidates, they remain unpredictable and stressful experiences.
With advances in AI and multimodal foundation models, we now have the opportunity to transform how people prepare for these moments.
By combining reasoning, voice interaction, and behavioral feedback through Amazon Nova models, Hireon aims to make interview preparation more intelligent, personalized, and accessible.
Because the best opportunities should go to the most capable candidates — not just the ones who guessed the right questions.
