Amazon Nova AI Hackathon
Modern research is slow and fragmented. Imagine asking a complex question like:
“What are the latest advances in solid-state batteries for EVs?”
You open multiple tabs, read research papers, skim news articles, and highlight PDFs. Hours later you still struggle to synthesize conflicting claims — like Toyota’s 2027 timeline versus analysts predicting 2030.
Research should not take hours just to understand the landscape.
So we built ResearchPilot, an AI research automation system powered entirely by Amazon Nova models on Amazon Bedrock.
What is ResearchPilot?
ResearchPilot is a multi-agent AI research assistant that automates the entire research workflow.
A user simply asks a question using text or voice. The system then:
• Searches academic and web sources automatically
• Reads and analyzes articles, PDFs, and charts
• Detects contradictions between sources
• Generates a structured, fully cited research report
• Reads the executive summary aloud to the user
What normally takes hours of manual work becomes a 5-minute automated research process.
The Amazon Nova Architecture
ResearchPilot uses five different Amazon Nova models, each performing a specialized role in the pipeline.
Nova Pro
Handles reasoning, document analysis, and report synthesis using extended thinking for deeper research insights.
Nova Lite
Generates structured research plans and JSON outputs quickly and cost-efficiently.
Nova Sonic
Enables voice input and audio summaries through speech-to-text and text-to-speech capabilities.
Nova Act
Functions as an autonomous web research agent that navigates search engines and extracts structured data.
Nova Embeddings
Creates semantic vectors used for ranking sources and filtering irrelevant results.
Together these models form a coordinated AI research pipeline where each component performs the task it is best suited for.
Key System Design
ResearchPilot includes several architectural decisions that improve research quality:
Parallel Agent Execution
Multiple research agents run simultaneously, reducing total research time significantly.
Semantic Source Ranking
Using embeddings and vector similarity search, irrelevant sources are filtered before synthesis.
Contradiction Detection
Extended reasoning surfaces disagreements across sources instead of hiding them.
Confidence Scoring
Reports include a reliability score based on source diversity and evidence quality.
Real-World Impact
ResearchPilot helps multiple groups:
Students and Academics
Literature reviews that normally take hours can be generated in minutes.
Analysts and Consultants
Sector research and briefings become dramatically faster.
Journalists and Policy Researchers
Fact-checking across multiple sources becomes easier and more reliable.
By automating the information-gathering phase, researchers can spend more time on analysis, creativity, and insight.
What We Learned Building with Amazon Nova
Working with the Amazon Nova ecosystem revealed several strengths:
• Nova Act enables natural-language browser automation for research tasks
• Extended thinking in Nova Pro improves synthesis and contradiction detection
• Nova Lite is ideal for fast structured outputs
• Multimodal embeddings allow text and visual research data to be compared semantically
The combination of these models made it possible to build a production-ready research system within a hackathon timeframe.
Conclusion
Research should not be limited by how fast humans can read browser tabs.
By orchestrating the full Amazon Nova model family, ResearchPilot transforms research from a slow manual process into a fast, intelligent AI-driven workflow.
This project demonstrates how agentic AI systems on Amazon Bedrock can dramatically improve knowledge work for students, researchers, and professionals.
