Our Vision

Our vision is simple and deeply sincere: no one should ever feel unseen or unremembered.
I built Remember Me to help patients safely and independently recognize loved ones, understand important relationships, and go through daily life with calm and confidence. By combining AI facial recognition, real-time voice guidance, personalized memory support, and complete interaction history, the system helps patients stay connected to the people and moments that matter most. It supports autonomy, reduces anxiety, and brings back small, precious moments of recognition that make life feel like home.

Why This Matters

Alzheimer’s does not just erase memories — it erases connection.
Over 55 million people worldwide live with dementia, and millions more caregivers carry heavy, invisible burdens. Patients often feel scared, isolated, and disoriented when they cannot recognize faces. Caregivers face exhaustion, emotional stress, and burnout. Traditional tools are clinical, passive, and unable to meet patients’ emotional and cognitive needs with genuine empathy.
Remember Me matters because technology should protect, respect, and empower vulnerable users.
It restores confidence, eases caregiver pressure, strengthens family bonds, and returns a sense of normalcy to those who need it most. This is not only an AI project — it is a commitment to dignity, autonomy, and humane care in an aging society.

How I Built It

Remember Me was designed as an Android mobile experience connected to a Python backend, using AWS AI and cloud services to create a scalable, human-centered memory support system.
Core Architecture
Amazon Rekognition – validates enrollment photos, indexes faces, and matches a captured photo against registered individuals.
Amazon Bedrock – generates calm, natural memory prompts and personalized guidance to help explain who the recognized person is.
Amazon Polly – converts recognition prompts into spoken audio so the system can guide the patient with a gentle voice experience.
Amazon Transcribe – supports voice-based interaction by turning short recordings into text for notes and feedback.
Amazon S3 – stores enrollment photos, recognition query images, and temporary media assets used during AI processing.
Amazon DynamoDB – stores person profiles, relationship context, memory cues, and interaction feedback history.
Python FastAPI backend + Android app – orchestrate the end-to-end product flow between mobile experience, AWS services, and patient-facing guidance.
Kiro – was a major development tool for this project: the Python backend was fully built with Kiro, and parts of the Android application were also accelerated with Kiro during implementation.
Key System Features
Real-time facial scanning and recognition
Voice-guided reminders explaining who the person is and their relationship
Face registration with relationship details, short biography, and memory cues
Interaction history, enrolled people gallery, and memory reinforcement experiences designed to support recall over time
Patient emotion feedback through one-tap selection or voice recording
Personalized greetings and configurable voice settings for a more supportive daily experience
The interface is designed specifically for elderly users with:
High-contrast colors
Large fonts
Simplified interaction controls
This ensures the system remains accessible and easy to use even for patients with limited technical familiarity.

Demo

I have built a complete, locally runnable prototype and a under 5-minute demo video that shows:
• Real-time face scanning and gentle patient notifications
• Instant recognition with relationship details and warm voice guidance
• On-site face registration and personalized voice introductions
• Full interaction history and face gallery for patient review
• Patient-controlled emotion and experience feedback

What I Learned

This project taught me that the most powerful technology is not the smartest — it is the most compassionate.
I learned to design for feelings, not just features: safety, dignity, calm, and belonging.
Key insights:
• How to create truly accessible, human-centered AI for vulnerable populations.
• The critical importance of ethics, privacy, and patient autonomy in memory-related care.
• How to balance technical capability with empathy, simplicity, and emotional safety.
• How AWS AI tools and low-code platforms can turn social good ideas into real, usable solutions.
• How technology can protect dignity, reduce manipulation, and preserve the authenticity of a patient’s experience.
Above all, I learned that AI’s highest purpose is to help people feel seen, remembered, valued, and loved.
